Nancy Cartright Gives $10 million to Church of Scientology, Doubles Tom Cruise

February 4th 2008 13:18
I honestly can't say I have much respect left for Nancy Cartwright who does the voice over work for Bart. She has reportedly given $10 million to the Church of Scientology, $5 million more than Tom Cruise for the purpouse of ridding the earth of social ills.

The voice actress tops the list of celebrity benefactors who help fund the church. According to Scientology magazine Impact, Kirstie Alley, the former Cheers actress, gave $5m last year, while John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston gave $1m each and Elvis's ex, Priscilla Presley, made a donation of $50,000. All these celebrity donors were honoured at the Florida ceremony, according to the publication.

Cartwright, who is 'Honorary Mayor' of Northridge, a neighborhood in northwest Los Angeles, has been a member of the Church of Scientology since 1989, about the same time that Cruise joined. Cartwright also supports charitable organisations such as the Way to Happiness Foundation and the World Literary Crusade, which are linked to the Church of Scientology. With The Simpsons Movie grossing approximately $526m worldwide since its release last July, she should be well placed to give generously again this year.

I guess Tom Cruise is broke and she's rich, considering their relative Box Office takings.

WHY? Why would you donate that amount of money to an already ridiculously wealthy - and just plain ridiculous - cult?

I have completely lost respect for her too now. And I hate that Travolta is a Scientologist. I really like him otherwise.

I always though she was on the weird side anyway. This proves it!

Why would anyone give money to that crazy cult? I can't understand why Scientology draws so many celebrities into it. Must be the craziness they already have as celebs being used against them to make them believers.

Michaelie, I agree with you about John Travolta!
